I’m presenting three works primarily using cast-off “tin can” fragments recovered from an illegal mid-century dumpsite in Arizona.  I have mounted them on front porch columns from a home destroyed to make way for the new School of Architecture at Kent State University.  In the visual arts, to appropriate means to correctly adopt, borrow, reuse or model aspects of existing objects.  Because the items have a “creature comforts” commonality I’ve named the sculptures “A Domestic Thread”, numbers 1, 2 and 3.

I favor the use of encaustic medium in this edition as it creates layers of color and deep textures in a manner not found by using other media.  The downside of using tinted beeswax is that you’ll be better served keeping the columns indoors.
